Previously, I wrote about the Black Hog Saloon and it’s BBQ Bash. My husband and I had a rowdy time there with a group of our friends the night we attended the Aruba Harley Davidson biker bar. The cover charge included a BBQ dinner, free Balashi beer on tap, and entertainment, including games, contests, dancing, a round of mini golf, bar stool racing show and Harley Davidson motorcycle Show.
Scott and I were one of several couples chosen to run in the “Balloon Race”. The contestants were couples who, either had gotten married in Aruba that weekend, or were on their honeymoon in Aruba. It was a silly but fun game. Each couple was a team; taking turns either sitting, or running with a balloon between their knees. The balloon had to be popped by placing it on the seated teammate's lap and sitting on it. The winner was the team that popped the most balloons in 3 minutes. (We came in second!)
It was only 1 night, a year ago. And yet, I remember all the laughter and amusement we had that night. The dreadful news of the devastating fire makes my heart sink and I recap the story.
Fire at The Black Hog Saloon
Tuesday, September 22, 2009, at around 12:30 am, a fire was reported at the vacant building which was formerly the biker bar The Black Hog Saloon, located in Sasakiweg behind LaCabana Villas.
The first few fire units to arrive soon called for backup as the fire raged out of control. No one was hurt in the fire, however neither the fire chief or any spokesperson for the department were available to comment on the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage.
In May of this year, (2009), the building, including, the bar, the Adventure (Mini)Golf and the attached Alfredo's restaurant was sold without notice to staff or customers. The employees were let go and the building has stood empty for months. It had been burglarized and vandalized sometime in June.
Personally, I was shocked to hear that it had been sold, and then closed. But now, to hear that it’s completely destroyed, I have to raise an eyebrow at the suspicious circumstances behind a late night fire of this vacant building.
